PHY 3110 - Classical Mechanics (Fall, 2014)

Syllabus

Course Content on Trinket

PHY 3110. Classical Mechanics. An advanced study of Newtonian mechanics applied to particles and systems of particles. Topics include central force motion, oscillators and coupled oscillators, rotating systems and rigid bodies, calculus of variations, and the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulations of mechanics. Prerequisites: PHY 2020, MTH 2410, and MTH 3410 (MTH 3610 may be taken in place of MTH 2410 and MTH 3410). This course is offered in the fall of even-numbered years and consists of 6 hours of integrated lecture and laboratory per week. Four credits.

Day Date Assignments
18/27

  1. CH01 -- Read Vectors in a cartesian coordinate system

Also read the notebooks (and execute each cell) and do the first two HW assignments.

  2. CH01 HW - Cartesian Coordinate System.

Do the HW assignment. It has four problems. Each one requires a hand-written solution and a notebook. Submit two files for each problem, a photo or scan of the hand-written solution and your notebook. You should submit a total of 8 files.

Create a folder in our shared Google Drive called CH01. Create a subfolder in this folder with the name of the HW assignment.

Upload the files to this subfolder. Name the files in an organized way like "Problem 1" or something like that.

  3. CH01 HW - Velocity in cartesian coordinates

Do the HW assignment. It has three problems. The first two require a hand-written solution and a notebook. The third problem requires a notebook. Submit two files for each of the first two problems, a photo or scan of the hand-written solution and your notebook. You should submit a total of 5 files.

Create a folder in our shared Google Drive called CH01. Create a subfolder in this folder with the name of the HW assignment.

Upload the files to this subfolder. Name the files in an organized way like "Problem 1" or something like that.
