Diodes & Light-Emiting Diodes

Introduction

A diode is an electronic device that lets current flow through it in only one direction. How it works isn't important right now. Here's what a few diodes look like:

The one on the left is an LED, light-emitting diode. LEDs glow when they are conducting current, and come in a variety of colors (red, yellow, green, blue, and white, plus also infrared).
